My thoughts on why being gay is wrong

A reader of BlackPundit commented on one of my post. His comment was about gays having rights and I thought that this was a good discussion and I would like to share his comment and my response. The BlackPundit reader writes:

As for your stand on gay marriage: don’t get caught up on words. Words aren’t important. It’s about rights, not terminology. Call it what you want, but give us the same rights you enjoy. The arguments against gay marriage now are exactly the same as the arguments several decades ago against interracial marriage. I don’t care if it’s called marriage. In fact, I don’t think the government should be involved in marriage at all. They should allow a legal contract called a civil union or whatever they wish to call it (NOT marriage) which can be between any two adults giving them the legal rights which are now associated with marriage. The government shouldn’t recognize marriage at all, only those contracts. Leave marriage to churches.

I understand what you mean when you say, “it’s about rights, not testimony. “ I have thought about that before. But then I thought a little deeper and thought to myself that being gay is wrong so why should they have rights. I don’t really quote much from the bible, but since I strongly believe marriage is a covenant between a woman, man and God, I must quote this:
Leviticus Ch. 18 v22-23
22 You shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is an abomination. 23 Nor shall you mate with any animal, to defile yourself with it. Nor shall any woman stand before an animal to mate with it. It is perversion.
Leviticus Ch 20 v13
If a man lies with a male as he lies with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination. They shall surely be put to death. Their blood shall be upon them.
These quotes from the bible strongly says that being gay is wrong. I know you might think what I am about to say sounds a little disturbing, but this can be true. The bible also coincides with theory that if we accept gays in our society, then where would our morals stop. Next, as the bible mentions (Leviticus Ch. 18 v23), people will try to legalize having sex with animals (not that it is illegal, I’m not for sure) or try to have it accepted.
As far as leaving it up to the church, the church believes in the bible and if the bible says it is wrong, than why would they honor a gay marriage?
Two other theories of mines that being gay is wrong is that fact that you can not bear children and that gay men are extremely high with AIDS. I strongly believe nature guides us on what’s wrong and right just by facts of devastation. For example, nature tells us sleeping around with many different people is wrong by those people acquiring many STDs.
Mike C., this message is not trying to bash gays, but just to bring out the facts about why being gay is technically wrong. Therefore, why should we accept this kind of wrong behavior in our society?

Tavares - Leviticus also has laws about not mixing milk with meat, not eating shellfish nor pork, not wearing clothing that has two types of different threads in it (linen and cotten, for example) - yet people break these “laws” all the time in modern days, without a second thought.
Why should these laws be OK to break - but not admonitions against homosexuality?
Isn’t it possible that many of these laws made sense at the time they were written - when we didn’t have refrigeration nor reliable methods of cooking and making other foods safe….and a time when mortality was so high, it may well have seemed very dangerous that any man or woman would have sex that couldn’t lead to the birth of a child?
There are many religious laws which I can see some intellectual good reasons behind - but homosexuality is not one of them. How does it harm others if two adult men or women have sex with one another in private?
I truly do believe that one’s sexuality is “in-born” - that is, somehow it is stamped upon our psyche. If you think this isn’t so - then think about your own sexuality. Did you go through a long struggle deciding to be “straight” instead of “gay”? Odds are, absolutely not. I know I surely did not!
Why should we damn adults for having sex with those to whom they are attracted - other than the Bible, written thousands of years ago, says so?

Just to comment on Peg K’s comment. I find it interesting that you say you are not harming anyone by your actions. And you say that in the old days when the Israelites were in the desert that the instructions given to them were to prevent harm. These days we have refrigeration that can stop us getting sick from food but do we have a cure to aids or a cure to the mental and emotional anguish experienced by many gay people. We can see now that it was probably a good idea to follow those old rules and we understand why they were there. The fact that we can not explain the reason why the other rules were there means that they still apply and are valid for us today. Just as a donkey mates with a horse, a mule is born and althought the donkey and horse don’t suffer any sort of harm at the time and the mule seems to be no worse off. If the whole society of donkeys and horses were to continue in this abnormal behaviour and thus make it normal, both species would be completely wiped out. Why? Mules can’t reproduce. It is one of the consequences of the actions taken by it’s parents. Although the animals could not see the harm at the time it would severly affect everyone in that society. Humans are now taken the same path. Nations that have continued these practises in the past no longer exist and for good reason. It is one of the consequences of their actions. Don’t let it happen to you, your kinds, your town, your society, your home. Time will prove this concept right. Don’t get caught out.

I have to fully agree with Peg K.
John: as long as there are still straight people, then humans won’t die out. It’s not like everyone is gay, and it is also not like we need anymore people in this world. There are over 6 billion people, and many many children have no parents, etc. Why on earth would you make more people?
I hate people that think being gay is so wrong. Obviously you can not regard gay people as people anymore, but vile things that have been condemned to hell.
And how in the heck does legalizing mating with animals have anything to do with being gay? The two are nothing alike. You had no reason to connect them. Just because you quote something from that stupid book doesn’t mean it’s right.
In fact, I disagree with A LOT of things in the bible.
Guess that means I’m going to hell, right? Who cares if I’m a good person, because if I’m gay or don’t fully belive the bible -zoom- straight to hell.
Such stupid opinions. Maybe not wrong, but stupid to me.
