It’s frankly remarkable what the left in the US is claiming about social security privatization. It’s become just an exercise in propaganda, rather than real argument.

I agree with you 100 percent. The only decent argument the left has about privatizing social security is the fact that, how do you pay beneficiaries their promised benefits if the money instead goes to private accounts. But, if the congress put social security in bonds like they supposed to do instead of spending the money, we all would not have this problem.

Congress DID put social security in bonds. That is what the social security trust fund. In fact every time you here a conservative talk about the “worthless IOU s” of Social Security that is what they are referring to. The president’s plan as far as I can tell does not address how the Govt is suppose to pay those bonds back. Or restructure SS so that we can still payout benefits and still defer paying the bonds so soon.
Privatization, or “personalization” in and of itself is OK by me but it just doesn’t address the problem we have with our system.

Congress DID put social security in bonds. That is what the social security trust fund.
What is a Trust?
Well, since the government has no way of paying back this so call trust fund, then doesn’t that mean by law that the government has a Breach of Trust?
Also, how is it a trust fund or bond if congress always spends the money received by social security?
And to be honest, from this definition of what a trust is, social security is not a trust fund. There is no legally acknowledged and binding arrangement. They just call it that just so people would trust it. This is perfect reason why the government should not have control over our retirement.

Social Security IS NOT a trust fund but it HAS a trust fund. That trust fund is IS invested in US Treasury Bonds. Which are basically loans to the Federal Govt. The Govt MUST pay them when SSA decided it needs cash them in. And when they do and the Federal Govt does not have the money the Govt WILL either 1) raise taxes to pay the bonds or 2) borrow the money from somewhere else. Probably floating another bond.
two number to keep in mind:
2018: That is the year that CBO has predicted that parole taxes will no longer be enough to cover promised benefits, and will have to dip into the trust fund.
2042: This is the year that trust fund is expected to run dry. At which point benefits could be paid at %80 of what is promised until about 2080. (CBO does projections 75 year projections)
NOTHING I have ever heard or read about the Bush’s reforms addresses these basic facts. He is pushing privatization for its OWN sake. personal accounts are a good idea (if implemented correctly) but is not a answer for what is wrong social security.

My person opinion, I think this “trust fund” talk is a bunch of bologna. If it was or has a trust, then shouldn’t the money be invested instead of being spent? That’s why many people refer to social security as “pay-as-you-go” system.

It is invested in Treasury Bonds. But when you build a fund as big as the SS trust fund and then all of sudden start drawing on it, you are going to feel it.
Regardless if this is in his reforms or not, these issues are still being addressed by privatizing social security.
How so? In fact the President’s plan only makes the problem worse because taking money out of SS to start funding these accounts forces the Govt to either raise taxes to replenish the money, borrow more money (robbing Peter to pay Paul), or do nothing and start having to pay back the bonds sooner.
What do you see that would benefit him in privatizing social security?
Don’t know but I stopped tying to make since out of what this President does.

know garageband can do essentially what you’re asking, maybe sound studio too. That old school classic app SoundApp was amazing and would probably work as well. I know it does work under classic.

To join songs, try the old DOS command COPY, like this: copy /b song1.mp3 + song2.mp3 + song3.mpg mysongs.mp3. That should work great.
