The “White Man” Concept
Posted on September 21st, 2005 in General, Politics by tavaresforby ||
I was listening to ” Rush Limbaugh” the other morning and he was discussing on why is it that when non-blacks criticize black political leaders like the black mayor of New Orleans, Ray Nagin, it is racist. On one of his calls, he asks this one black lady a very good question. He ask, “Why is it that many blacks do not look up to people like Thomas Sowell and Clarence Thomas?” The lady on the phone gave a really good answer. She said, referring to blacks, that all of our lives we hear on how the “White Man” keeps us down. After hearing this over and over again and without actually seeing this, we tend to believe this. Especially hearing this since you was a child. Then you hear strong influential political leaders like Rev. Jesse Jackson and Rev. Al Sharpton whose job is to bring this idiotic concept home. Therefore, this deters many blacks to look up to people like Thomas Sowell, Clarence Thomas, and may I add, Walter Williams. She also mentions that many blacks do not have much access to learn about people like Thomas Sowell because of where he writes his columns. I agree with this woman 100 percent. I do believe this is one of the main reasons why blacks do not look up to more dominant black political leader.
Also, it is funny how people like Rev. Jesse Jackson and Rev. Al Sharpton promote this “White Man” concept, but they had a front seat and spoke at the Democratic National Convention with the “White Man” liberal John Kerry.
(Ranting) To those who believes in this “White Man” keeps me down concept. GET OVER IT!!! The white man is not trying to keep you down. This concept is your excuse for your lack of success. Also, stop looking for handouts. Get up, get out, and get your own success. If you are waiting for the “White Man” to pay you back for all the horrible things they did to our ancestors, like reparations, you will be waiting forever. It is not going to happen! Our true black political leaders like Dr. Martin Luther King and Malcom X lead the path of racism to where it is today, minimum! Today, blacks are as equal to others more than it has ever been. Let us take advantage of this and let us live prosperous. Let us stop making excuses for our own failure. Let us teach our kids about how important education is. Let us reduce separatism from other races. Let us learn from the “White Man” or any other race on how to create success and riches. If each individual black person does this, we will prosper as a race of proud Black Americans.

How deep do you want to go with this, brother? If African Americans used the EXACT SAME strategies the “white man” used to acquire power and wealth on this continent, there would be rivers of blood running through the streets. You ARE aware of the history of this nation, right?
As far as Rush Limbaugh is concerned, Dell Gines has a very cogent examination of Rush and believes the man is a racist. It makes for a great read:

This is pretty much the same thing Walter Williams said a few weeks ago.

Cobra, I am not talking about history. I am talking today. Things were different then.

Tavares,
With all due respect, you can’t talk about “reducing separatism from other races”, without examining why races are separated in the first place. Segregation was not an African American invention. It was the law of the land, which was written by White Americans. In fact, it’s only been 40 years since the Civil Rights Act, which was NOT a unanimous decision. You also seem to place a higher burden upon African Americans for concessions than those of our fellow white citizens. Please explain this.
As far as Rush Limbaugh is concerned….do you really think he’s a proper arbiotr of African American perspective given his track record?
>>>”African-Americans
And then what if — there are all kinds of little Communist regimes in — what if Fidel Castro shows up and says I endorse Kerry? The Black Caucus would like that, but Kerry wouldn’t. [3/19/04]
I mean, let’s face it, we didn’t have slavery in this country for over 100 years because it was a bad thing. Quite the opposite: slavery built the South. I’m not saying we should bring it back; I’m just saying it had its merits. For one thing, the streets were safer after dark.[3/14/03]
“Was there any excrement, any shamelessness in any form, above all in cultural life, in which at least one African-American would not have been involved? As soon as one even carefully cut into such an abscess, one found, like maggots in a decaying body, often blinded by the sudden light, an African-American. [2/21/03]
“You know who deserves a posthumous Medal of Honor? James Earl Ray. We miss you, James. Godspeed. [4/23/98]

You cannot compare 40 years ago with today. Things are much different and better then from 40 years ago.
Actually, I have seen the reduction of racism lately. I was in a restaurant a while back and a group of teenagers came in. The first thing I notice was the dynamics of race. It was about 15 to 20 of them and they all consisted of Blacks, Whites, Hispanics, and Asians. They all seem to mingle smoothly like they were all one race. That put a smile on my face. But you would not see that 40 years ago. Today, I think you would see more separation and racism in older generation. I honestly believe in about two to three generations from now, we will see more races united and less seperation.
Freedom of speech! He can say what ever he wants to a certain extent; so long he does not act upon his words. BET claims “Black Power.” That is a racist slur. You cannot say it’s not because you would admit saying “White Power” is a racist slur. We are all intrinsically racist in our own ways. It is human nature. Besides, my topic is not about him, but about the answer the African American woman gave him for his question.

I’m not going to attack you, brother. I just want you to understand that your example of lessoning “racism” is not as compelling as you would wish to believe.
15-20 years ago, I was a college student up here in the Northeast. My group of friends and classmates could have identically matched the scene you described.
I would like you to examine the racism in this society TODAY, in housing discrimination, lending discrimination, job discrimination, and discrimination in the justice system in regards to African Americans. If you would like me to post links to data and research that prove their rampant existance, I will gladly do so.

If that’s true, then what is with all this “let us reduce separatism from other races”, stuff? According to your words, “reducing separatism” would be an “inhuman” act.
Tell me if I’m off-base here.
As far as Rush Limbaugh is concerned, you’re free to embrace him every bit as much as you could David Duke, Matthew Hale, Charles Murray or any other like minded individual. You do indeed have “Freedom of Speech.”

I am not saying that this is so compelling. I am just giving you an example on how I see this more and more where as, at least where I am from, I have hardly seen this before.
As far as housing, lending, and job discrimination, you cannot not say that it is the same as 20 to 40 years back. I am not saying that it isn’t any, but I am saying it is minimal. Maybe I’m blind, which I doubt, but I never experienced discrimination with any lending companies, housing or with getting a job. I live just as freely as any other race with no resistance.
Let me rephrase my wording. I don’t mean to use the word intrinsic. We develop racism as we grow from childhood in our society. Therefore, if society changes, so do our teachings. And as I see, society is changing. More or less in different areas.

It’s the same in private life. If you have had an oppressive and exploitive father, you can’t go through life blaming him - at some point you got to move on. It’s not really a race thing at all - it’s part of the human condition and we all have to grapple with those who would try to make us feel inferior and put us down. Welcome to LIFE !

CHANCE: Blacks and whites are different genetically and culturally and these two things influence their behavior.
These two things influence their conservatism and liberalism.
These two racial groups will always be different - also I feel that black conservatives need to create their own conservatism.
Just like white conservatism is based upon white culture and genetics. And their conservatism benefits them, because it is based upon their own genetics and culture.
Look at non-white countries (colored ethnic groups) they all conserve their own conservatism which is based upon their culture and genetics.
Genetics have a more powerful influence than culture because culture is created from genetics.

CHANCE
What do you mean when you say that blacks and whites are different genetically?
James

They races actually aren’t different genetically at all.
The Human Genome Project (HGP) has proven without any doubt that there is the same amount of genetic difference between individuals of the S A M E race - as there is between a caucasian and an african.
Is genetics the point anyway? As for differences - I love them. I think David Bowie and Imam are a fascinating pair partly because of their racial alchemy - she is a Somalian goddess and Dave is just a whitey street runt from England who happened to be phenomenally talented.
On another note, picked up this great quote from Hitchens on the recent anti-war rallies …
***Was there a single placard saying, “No to Jihad”? Of course not. Or a single placard saying, “Yes to Kurdish self-determination” or “We support Afghan women’s struggle”? Don’t make me laugh.***

To James
Genetics influence our behavior should study genetics. It would take a series of essays by me to explain it.

To Aidan
Thank you, that was the point I was going to make to Chance.
Chance, if what you say is true about genetics influencing behavior; does anyone have a choice in how they behave? I mean if my father and grandfather was a bum and my mother is worthless then it’s ok for me to continue with the same madness because of genetics influence. I think it’s influence period that help to mold character and even if it’s bad influences I’m thankful I have the choice to not follow it.

Or you could take ex-Secretary of Education and morality Czar Bill Bennett’s stance:
>>>”BENNETT: Well, I don’t think it is either, I don’t think it is either, because first of all, there is just too much that you don’t know. But I do know that it’s true that if you wanted to reduce crime, you could — if that were your sole purpose, you could abort every black baby in this country, and your crime rate would go down. That would be an impossible, ridiculous, and morally reprehensible thing to do, but your crime rate would go down. So these far-out, these far-reaching, extensive extrapolations are, I think, tricky.”

I believed, before moving to VA that racism had lessened. Having lived in CA, WA and HI most recently, I experienced diverse cultures living and working together. Not in harmony all the time, Asian teachers don’t like hyper white boys we found, but still, I never felt the need to flee the neighborhood. I found a radically different tone in the people I’ve encountered in VA, racism is alive and well my friend.

I agree that the White Man is not holding us down, and we are the controllers of our own faith. But please dont tell us to read or listen to “Slave Catchers” like Walter Williams, and Thomas Sowell. I mean why should we? What are they going to say that is much different than the poverty pimps on the other side such as Jackson, Sharpton etc .? Yes they are conservatives, but so what, this only means that they are in the Republican gang as opposed to the Democratic gang. My advise to all Black people is simple: Work hard, love your family and your God, save your money, and dont listen to these politricksters on either side of the political spectrum.

Genetics has proven that we are from the same set(s) of parents. Stop with the outdated, agenda-ridden nonsense of Darwinistic evolution - it’s totally b.s. as shown on many scientific fronts. It only propagates racism since Darwin proposed the races “evolved” out of different hominids. Read Darwin’s book “origin of the species” - it will shock you!
As for job, housing discrimination. Look at blacks on the job, look at how they upkeep (or don’t their hoods. And who wants to lend to a people group that has such poor track records in business. When it comes money, the “white” establishment only sees ONE color - GREEN! If you can potentially make them money, they’ll kiss your grits. Look at rich black men - they can have any women they please - black, asian, blonde, multi-ethnic. Stop citing your skin color as the only or primary reason for discrimination - times have changed.
