Illegal Immigration

Posted on March 24th, 2006 in General, Politics, Culture by tavaresforby || 22 Comments

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Thousands of people across the country protested Friday against legislation cracking down on illegal immigrants, with demonstrators in such cities as Los Angeles, Phoenix and Atlanta staging school walkouts, marches and work stoppages.

Congress is considering bills that would make it a felony to be illegally in the United States, impose new penalties on employers who hire illegal immigrants and erect fences along one-third of the U.S.-Mexican border. The proposals have angered many Hispanics.

I don’t understand some people. To me this is a no-brainer. How do you protest something like this? Illegal immigrants come and crowd our public schools, use our medical services, use our welfare and they don’t even pay taxes. Double negative here people! They use all of our services and they don’t pay taxes, but yet we are trying to keep them here. Isn’t this ironic?

Also, how is it fair to other foreigners? Since we are trying to give open borders to Mexico, what about the people in other third world counties who would love to live out here. Like Haitians and Cubans. Hispanics has increased to about 70 percent (raised from 60 percent) of all illegal immigrants, and since the other illegal immigrants are just a small fraction compared to Mexico, then why not let them in with no problem. That is only fair, right? Only focusing on letting Hispanic illegal immigrants would make us prejudice, right?

But please don’t get me wrong here. I am for immigration, but legal immigration. Now if you want Hispanic immigrants to come across our boarders, then fight for easier immigration laws. Laws that would make it easier to get visas. But don’t accept something illegal and make it seem like it is legal. That’s contradicting, isn’t it? At least this way, they will be paying taxes too!

Kanye West is a fool!

Posted on February 11th, 2006 in General, Culture by tavaresforby || 7 Comments

Cocky rap star KANYE WEST is calling for a revised edition of THE BIBLE, because he thinks he should be a character in it.

The JESUS WALKS hitmaker, who picked up three Grammy Awards last night, feels sure he’d be “a griot” (West African storyteller) in a modern Bible.
He says, “I bring up historical subjects in a way that makes kids want to learn about them. I’m an inspirational speaker.

“I changed the sound of music more than one time… For all those reasons, I’d be a part of the Bible. I’m definitely in the history books already.”

This idiotic guy got to be kidding, right!!! Who do he think he is? And why do he think he is historic? I thought you have to be dead to be historic? I can bet there are foolish people out there that feels he should have the Bible revised with his name it.

He mentions he is an inspirational speaker and that he teaches kids historical subjects. What is he teaching kids? How to tell if a woman is a gold digger? Oh no I forgot, he teaches kids that Bush do not like black people! It is really sad to see blacks like Kanye West. He gives blacks a really bad name. I am pretty sure this guy knows that he has only 15 minutes of fame, and about 16 minutes has past. He is trying to raise controversy ONLY so he can last another 5 minutes. I guess that is what you call desperate measures!

Stanley “Tookie” Williams

Posted on November 23rd, 2005 in General, Politics, Culture by tavaresforby || 503 Comments

A good friend of mine wrote a good article on Stanley “Tookie” Williams, the founder of the crips.

Stanley “Tookie” Williams Must Die

There is a lot of attention being paid to this issue as the date of Mr. Williams execution approaches. I for one have to say that I am appalled by what I have seen and heard so far. In fact I’m outraged. I would like to say that the time for our society and Black Americans especially, has come to deal in reality. The reality that “Tookie” is a murderer responsible for the deaths of not only 4 innocent persons. But he is also a founding member of the Crips which by itself places the blood of a few thousand others on him as well. And to this day the Crips continue to destroy lives in our cities nation wide. This is directly attributable to him. Now I will briefly address some of the issues that are being brought forward on Mr. Williams behalf and I will close by directly addressing the so called “community leaders”.

Perhaps the most legitimate argument for sparing Mr. Williams life has nothing to do with Mr. Williams. And it is the issue of the death penalty. My personal belief is that we need a death penalty to deter individuals who would otherwise harm of kill people. Studies have shown that the threat of facing the death penalty has influenced many would be killers to reconsider in the moment of truth which is a good thing. And it also helps to bring closure to the families of victims in murder cases. Now having said all of that it is a personal opinion and I acknowledge that everybody will not agree and some feel that the death penalty is morally wrong. My counter argument is that we live in a democratic society. We do have the power to pass laws prohibiting the use of the death penalty. And should the people of California vote in favor of such a law, while I disagree with it, I would support it until I had a chance to vote it down. But because the death penalty IS LEGAL and is on the books. In order for our laws to have legitimacy, WE MUST CARRY OUT THE SENTENCE. Otherwise what would be the point of having it on the books? So my conclusion is that while I understand people’s moral opposition to the death penalty, it is a legal method of punishment and therefore we must carry it out when it is handed down in the sentencing phase to maintain the integrity of our legal system.

Speaking of the legal system. Many have argued that Mr. Williams has not received a fair trial and was not judged by his peers. Well I would say that’s nonsense. The jury that found him guilty did have a black person which is roughly proportional to the number of Black Americans in the population. Also it would be highly unlikely for a member of the Crips to actually show up to jury duty. So Mr. Williams was given a jury most representative of the society in which he lived. And that Jury was able to make the judgment that Mr. Williams did in fact commit the accused crimes based on the available evidence which included his own Shotgun and a shell casing that matched it.

In regard to evidence, Mr. Williams has many times appealed his case and on each occasion his appeal has been overturned. As time progressed there have been technological advances that would have been able to refute the evidence against him if it wasn’t true. But because Mr. Williams did in fact kill people and did in fact found the Crips his conviction stands as it should.

Appeals and rush to carry out the sentence. I would like to say that perhaps one of the greatest deceptions is that Mr. Williams is being rushed to his death. That claim is flat out laughable. First of all these crimes happened in 1981 if I recall correctly. This means that Mr. Williams has been on death row longer than some of this article’s readers have been alive! I think that 20+ years of appeals is enough and in reality too long but I digress.

Then there is the argument that because Mr. Williams has been nominated for the Nobel Prize and has written children’s books ect. He should be spared. First it should be noted that Mr. Williams Children’s books were ghost written and he allowed the writers to use his name. Second the Nomination of the Nobel Peace Prize is subjective and originated in Europe where the United States practice of putting incorrigibles to death is frowned upon. In other words the Nobel nomination for Mr. Williams represented yet another European anti American protest which used the Nobel Prize nomination visibility to elevate the European objection to the Death Penalty to the spot light. Let me just say that America is an independent nation and while we are appreciative of the advice we receive from allies. Foreigners should not be allowed to interfere in our legal processes.

What effect would Mr. Williams execution has on young would be gang members looking for a way out and people in general. We ideally it would have the effect of making people see the high price to be paid for committing savagery on fellow human beings. You will not hear that said aloud in the mass media. No instead you will hear things like Mr. Williams death will harden people and lessen the incentive for people to change. This is pure and utter nonsense. It’s meant to take advantage of weak minded people. Anybody who wants to leave gang life style need only to reflect inward and ask what it is about them that makes them want to get out. And then they must WORK and actually do it themselves for it to have any meaning. There was crime prior to Mr. Williams, and there will be crime when he is gone. So whether or not Mr. Williams lives or dies it irrelevant in that context except maybe that by letting him live. We will be showing that actions don’t have consequences.

Hollywood. I use the term Hollywood to describe the collage of celebrities and activist who have attached themselves to Mr. Williams for various reasons. The bottom line is that Hollywood is not qualified to discuss or decide upon the legitimacy of the death penalty alone. That is a right that belongs to the voters of California. All of us. And the People have decided. Hollywood actors have jobs just like the rest of us. And if this debate were about acting methodology, rapping or how to be a celebrity. I would not question their expertise. But when it comes to issues such as laws, politics and ethics. I think it’s disingenuous for them to use their celebrity influence to demonize people they don’t agree with. For them to claim their OPINIONS are anything more than that is an abomination.

Race pimpin’. I remember reading and listening to Dr. Martin Luther King and Malcolm X. Real community leaders. I remember reading about Rosa Parks. To me, those individuals are community leaders. A real community leader would have the guts to stand up in front of the TV cameras and tell the people that when you do the crime you do the time. And that murdering people has to have consequences or we will have anarchy. Even the Bible says an Eye for an eye! Stanley “Tookie” Williams is a murderer not a saint. Enough racial bigotry still exist in America that Black Americans must choose carefully those issues to rally behind so as to be taken seriously when it matters! For example, when a Black American is more qualified and its time to get promoted to CEO and all the other candidates are white! Then when and if race has anything to do with non selection, people will take the allegation more seriously. For Black Americans to waste political capital on a convicted murdered and founder of a gang that has killed more US citizens than the 9/11 attackers is ludicrous! There is a limit to the amount of times one can cry wolf before people stop listening. So called community leadership are taking advantage of and exploiting Black Americans for their own reasons that will cause far more harm than good by arguing that somehow Mr. Williams’s execution represents some sort of racism! In fact those so called community leaders should be rejected for such outrageous behavior. Tell the truth.

Not before concluding I’m going to speak briefly about religion for the benefit of believers and non believers alike. When Jesus hung on the cross. Next to him was a criminal who was also being executed. This criminal asked the Lord for forgiveness which Jesus granted because of the Lords knowledge of the sincerity of this persons heart. And after giving that forgiveness, the criminal died shortly after as a result of his crucifixion. According to Jesus this man was allowed into the Kingdom of Heaven. But only AFTER confessing and then being EXECUTED HERE ON EARTH. Considering that it would be within the Lords power to save this mans life. Why was it that only Jesus arose from the grave? I’ll withhold the answer so that individuals can reflect on this point.

In addition to sending Mr. Williams this letter and attempting to visit him. Here is what I am advising Mr. Williams to do and it is what I would do if I was in his shoes. I would tell Mr. Williams that he has a unique opportunity right a lot of the wrong he has done and perhaps he could even attain immortality by doing the following. Mr. Williams could write a letter to the public and specifically the youth. In his letter he should renounce the Crips and gang banging. He should use his life as an example of how the gangsta lifestyle is not good and should not be emulated or encouraged. And most of all he should apologize to the victims. Including all those victimized by gang violence. He should also tell the activist making false allegations of racism to leave and not make a mockery of the hardships that Black Americans have had to face when legitimately falsely accused in the past. And then He should walk into the death chamber and accept death as a payment for his sins. This would demonstrate to the youth that crime has consequences. But even more powerful it would demonstrate his willingness to accept responsibility for his actions. Through this act of courage he would influence many times more people, draw attention to the issue of the death penalty so that a true public discussion of its merit could take place. And he would be showing to a lot of young men how to be a man and accept responsibility for his actions. In this act he would instantly become the father of so many young men who never had a man around to show them what being a man means. His actions would be talked about, movies would be made and Mr. Williams, Stanley “Tookie” Williams, would never be forgotten. In a sense he would become immortal. And in his final act, Stanley “Tookie” Williams would achieve, Redemption.

Sincerely
Brandon

What is this world coming to?

What is the world coming to?

An Enumclaw-area man who authorities say helped run a farm where people had sex with animals — and where a Seattle man died doing so with a horse — was charged with a misdemeanor yesterday.

Police began investigating James Tait, 54, and another man who lived at the rural Southeast King County farm after the Seattle man died of injuries suffered during intercourse with a horse in the summer, Enumclaw police said.

The criminal-trespassing charge stems from a July 2 bestiality session involving Tait, the 45-year-old Seattle man and a horse in a neighbor’s barn, charging papers say. According to the King County Medical Examiner’s Office, the Seattle man died of acute peritonitis due to perforation of the colon.

King County prosecutors say it’s the most-severe charge they could file; Washington is one of more than a dozen states that does not outlaw bestiality.

“There is no evidence of injury to the animal to support animal-cruelty charges,” said Dan Satterberg, the county prosecutor’s chief of staff. “This is the only crime we can charge.”

Trespassing is all they can charge this man for bestiality. Wow!!! And sodomy is illegal in certain states.

Once I understood how this world is widely accepting homosexuality at a rapid paste, it made me think where would it stop. It won’t! My prediction is that in the next 10 to 20 years from now, bestiality will try to be widely accepted like how homosexuality is trying to be accepted today. Mark my word!

CNN making us Blacks look bad.

Typically, Fox News is considered to be a conservative news channel and CNN is considered to be a liberal news channel. As we all know, liberals supposedly are for the poor and minority, etc. If this is the case, then why is CNN making less fortunate Blacks look bad. This clip by CNN shows CNN news reporters questioning the “Conspiracy Theory” of the Levy. They are targeting Blacks who they know that is not educated and creditable on discussing this topic. It looks like to me CNN is making fun of those unfortunate Black victims of Hurricane Katrina.

Media Matters exposes Bennett

Posted on September 30th, 2005 in General, Politics, Culture by tavaresforby || 13 Comments

Ex-Sectary of Education Bill Bennett made a very strong statement the other day saying:

Well, I don’t think it is either, I don’t think it is either, because first of all, there is just too much that you don’t know. But I do know that it’s true that if you wanted to reduce crime, you could — if that were your sole purpose, you could abort every black baby in this country, and your crime rate would go down. That would be an impossible, ridiculous, and morally reprehensible thing to do, but your crime rate would go down. So these far-out, these far-reaching, extensive extrapolations are, I think, tricky.

Yes, this is a pretty harsh thing to say, especially over the air. Although, this may offend many African Americans, as it does offend me, we cannot ignore the truth. And the truth is, blacks are responsible for more crimes than any other race. The Bureau of Justice Statistics shows that Blacks are responsible of more than 50 percent of violent crime and over 36 percent of property crime which is the highest of all other races for these two categories. Violent crimes consist of rape/sexual assault, robbery, aggravated and simple assault and property crime consist of household burglary, theft, and motor vehicle theft.

Although what he said is harsh, if you erase offense of race, his theory is reasonable. You would probably have to think out side the box to understand this. If you have something that produces the majority of an action, and if you remove that something, then that action will be reduced.

Was what he said harsh? Yes. Was what he said wrong? Not in theory.

Quote of the Day

Like the March of Dimes’ victory against polio in the U.S., civil rights organizations can claim victory as well. At one time, black Americans did not enjoy the same constitutional guarantees as other Americans. Now we do. Because the civil rights struggle is over and won doesn’t mean that all problems have vanished within the black community. A 70 percent illegitimacy rate, 65 percent of black children raised in female-headed households, high crime rates and fraudulent education are devastating problems, but they’re not civil rights problems. Furthermore, their solutions do not lie in civil rights strategies.

An Introduction To Ted Hayes

Posted on April 28th, 2005 in General, Politics, Culture by ComptonFellah || 23 Comments

Political analyst on KCAL-9 TV Los Angeles, Ms. Stewart, has an article in the ($$) Wall Street Journal describing Ted Hayes. A must read for those that don’t know who Ted Hayes is.

Ted Hayes

Rasta Republican

By JILL STEWART
April 28, 2005 12:07 a.m.; Page A19

LOS ANGELES — Condoleezza Rice and Ward Connerly once epitomized black Republicans in California. But their ilk now also includes Ted Hayes, a social activist and inner-city coach whose billowing robes and dreadlocks don’t exactly conjure up an image of the GOP.

More blacks than ever support vouchers and faith-based initiatives, and side with President Bush on gay marriage. Mr. Hayes recently made the transition himself, ending a long journey for this former leftist who founded Dome Village, an outcropping of pod-like homeless shelters along the freeway in downtown Los Angeles.

There are other prominent black Republicans in California, of course, such as syndicated radio host Larry Elder and community relations expert Joe Hicks. But even among these unusual thinkers, Mr. Hayes stands out. He’s an intense critic of L.A.’s powerful “black old guard” — Democratic politicians, charity bosses and inner-city preachers who, for a generation, have responded to poverty and illiteracy by demanding government programs and blaming white racism.

Not surprisingly, plenty of people wish pesky black Republicans like Mr. Hayes would just slink away. He has skewered L.A.’s entrenched black leaders as “Negro officials,” and he has the street cred to get away with it. As L.A. endured another crisis between black leaders and cops recently, he refused to denounce police for shooting dead a 13-year-old, Devin Brown, after a car chase. Instead, Mr. Hayes’s press release faulted black church leaders who, despite their great power, rarely point to the lack of parental responsibility.

A totemic figure in L.A., Mr. Hayes has long emphasized problem-solving and individual responsibility. If you want to stop kids from shooting people, Mr. Hayes has told appalled black preachers and activists, stop blaming cops and “white folks” for urban tragedy and start blaming the lackadaisical inner-city family culture you support.

Mr. Hayes spent last fall tooling around the fortified neighborhoods of South Los Angeles, knocking on security screens and urging stunned residents to vote Bush. He explained that the Democratic Party was the Klan’s party in the 20th century, and the party of the slave trade before that. A lot of people he met didn’t know their pre-1960s history. He’s ever unflappable. In early December, he appeared on Fox News to vociferously defend the right of Condi Rice to be Republican. His segment was introduced by a bemused Brit Hume, who hardly knew what to make of the Rasta Republican.

To illustrate how easily civility can rub off on urban kids if adults take a stand, Mr. Hayes in the 1990s founded a cricket team in rundown Compton , comprised of Latino teenagers and homeless men. The team, called “Homies and Popz,” toured Ireland and England, playing at Windsor Castle, where Mr. Hayes chatted with the Earl of Wessex. Mr. Hayes’s son, Theo, a co-coach, told an interviewer that none of the cricket-playing kids has become a gang casualty. The Los Angeles Opera commissioned a 40-minute opera on the team by Michael Abels, and the Homies won two victory cups in the L.A. Social Cricket Alliance, a league dominated by Brits, Indians and other googly-bowling expats.

Mr. Hayes can ignite controversy, as when he persuaded L.A. officials to sign a declaration two years ago calling on Muslims to denounce global terrorism more vehemently. City leaders rewrote the declaration, making Mr. Hayes’s original wording tougher. When Muslim leaders expressed outrage, city officials quickly apologized. Mr. Hayes still smarts over public criticism of him by Muslim leaders arising from the incident, which he says could be cited by radical Islamists as reason to harm him physically.

Even that sort of dread doesn’t seem as tough as being a black Republican some days. He was outraged when a liberal white radio personality called Condi Rice an “Aunt Jemima” for embracing Republicanism, and even angrier when top black Democrats stood silent. He founded ABE — American Black Elephants — a group that so far has 10 members. At a recent L.A. County Republican Party meeting, Mr. Hayes erupted into “God Bless America” after watching slides from a soldier who’d just returned from Iraq. Less emotive Republicans, though startled, joined right in.

Mr. Hayes’s Republican bent has strained relations within his family. His daughter, Joanna, who won gold in the Athens Olympics in the 100-meter hurdles, explained on PBS last year that after much political confusion, she’s learned to be deeply proud of her dad.

Yet in spite of the gnashing of teeth he provokes, Mr. Hayes earns grudging respect. In the ’90s, with nonprofits citing a lack of “affordable housing” as a key cause of homelessness, Mr. Hayes — living among the domes — suggested that many black homeless men were modern-day tramps who viewed the middle class with disdain. But he was constructive, not merely critical, and proposed a National Homeless Plan to enlist corporations to help resistant homeless men support themselves in special communities — winning private contracts like those that now go to incarcerated prisoners.

A principled man (like Mr. Connerly, the University of California regent who persuaded voters to end affirmative action in college admissions), Mr. Hayes has the courage of his convictions. Recently, he met with L.A. City Councilman Antonio Villaraigosa to sound out his thoughts on the Hayes-Muslim dustup. Mr. Villaraigosa, for his part, is seeking to become the first Latino mayor of L.A. since Abraham Lincoln’s time, and has been peeling black votes away from incumbent James Hahn. He needs not to alienate the dreadlocked and outspoken Republican.

Mr. Hayes’s victories are small — enjoying face time with a busy politician, teaching street kids the finer points of cricket, and helping homeless men pull themselves together. Each is a part of the Hayes project. And he’s got patience, especially when it comes to broadening the Republican tent. Or, as Ted Hayes might call it, the Republican dome.

English in America

Posted on December 9th, 2004 in General, Culture by tavaresforby || 153 Comments

As we all know, the US is facing a very large growth of Hispanic immigration. With this large immigration scale comes a language linguistic barrier. The native language of the US is English, in which many Hispanics immigrants are failing to become proficient in. I came across a good article that demonstrates the different rates in which immigrants in the United States learn the English language. This article also goes into naturalization rates between different immigrants. The high light of this article goes as follows:

  • There exists an English Acquisition Gap between Hispanic immigrants and immigrants of other ancestries. Seventy-one percent of the foreign born speak English proficiently, with different ancestries acquiring English at widely different levels. The ancestries above the median are diverse in continent of origin and native language. The ancestries at the bottom of the scale are disproportionately of Mexican or Central American origin.
  • The English Acquisition Gap cannot be explained by the relative recency of immigration. When comparing different immigrant groups, it is crucial to control for any premature conclusions arising from different times of entry into the United States. When recency is taken into account, the English Acquisition Gap between the Hispanic and the non-Hispanic foreign-born is still evident; in fact, the gap exceeds 20 percentage points.
  • The English Acquisition Gap is evident between the most prominent immigrant groups, and cannot be explained by “issues” with the Spanish language. Recent arrivals from Africa, Asia and Eastern Europe are significantly more likely to learn English than natives of Mexico and Central America. Sub-Saharan Africans and Russians speak English at well above the 71 percent national average, while Mexicans and Guatemalans speak English at the lowest levels of proficiency. Nonetheless, many groups that hail from Spanish-speaking countries speak English at well above the national average, including Venezuelans and Argentineans.
  • There exists a Citizenship Acquisition Gap between Hispanic immigrants and immigrants of other ancestries. As with language, different ancestry groups display vastly different rates of naturalization in the United States. For immigrants that arrived in the United States between 1980 and March 2000, the naturalization rate was 26 percent. However, on one end of the scale, Vietnamese immigrants are naturalized at twice this rate. On the other hand, Mexican immigrants are naturalized at only half the national average. These varying rates are evident on both a national and state level.
  • The English Acquisition Gap may be explained in part by the phenomenon of Demographic Dominance. The U.S. immigrant population, once made up of a diverse mix of nationalities, has become dominated by a single nation. Though the Mexican-born percentage of the immigrant population in 2000 is roughly identical to the German-born percentage of the population in 1890, the lack of representation by other leading immigrant nations may have led to the development of a de facto “second national language.” In 1890, the combined total of the second, third and fourth most common immigrant homelands represented more than 44 percent of the foreign born. In 2000, the nations in the same standing accounted for just over 10 percent.

Here is a figure that shows the proficiency of different immigrants compared to the average.

Have you ever been to a drive-thru at a fast-food restaurant and when you order your food, you can barley understand what the person is saying who is taking your order? I’m pretty sure many of us experience this frequently. This becomes very annoying. I think if you are not proficient in English, than you should not hold a position were you have to deal with the public. I had some work done on my house recently and I approach one of the workers, which was a middle age Hispanic guy. When I asked him a question about some of the work he was doing to my home, he had the lightest clue in what I was saying. He was the only one working on my house at that time. Since I had to be at work soon, I didn’t have time to wait for an English speaking person to come. This disturbed me greatly. This then lead me thinking, “what is the accreditations of this construction/building company that is working on my house when they hire someone that cannot speak English. Does this person have credentials on building or construction work?” I seriously doubt it!

I think that many non-English speaking Hispanics feel that they don’t need to learn English because of the large population of Hispanics here in the US. Many fluent Spanish speaking Hispanics work throughout the community, which enables non-English speaking Hispanics to go through life without learning English. I often notice many Hispanics speaking amongst themselves in their native language when I go to places like grocery stores and other public places.

Here is another figure that shows the foreign born population in the US.

A couple months back, I was driving down the 105fwy heading west off of the 710fwy. Right there in Lynwood, CA smack on the side of the freeway to the right was this BIG GIGANTIC sign that said “Mexico Plaza”. What!!! I’m sorry, but I think this is going way too far. These are very good reasons why illegal immigration needs to be addressed.

My thoughts on why being gay is wrong

Posted on November 10th, 2004 in General, Culture by tavaresforby || 269 Comments

A reader of BlackPundit commented on one of my post. His comment was about gays having rights and I thought that this was a good discussion and I would like to share his comment and my response. The BlackPundit reader writes:

As for your stand on gay marriage: don’t get caught up on words. Words aren’t important. It’s about rights, not terminology. Call it what you want, but give us the same rights you enjoy. The arguments against gay marriage now are exactly the same as the arguments several decades ago against interracial marriage. I don’t care if it’s called marriage. In fact, I don’t think the government should be involved in marriage at all. They should allow a legal contract called a civil union or whatever they wish to call it (NOT marriage) which can be between any two adults giving them the legal rights which are now associated with marriage. The government shouldn’t recognize marriage at all, only those contracts. Leave marriage to churches.

My response:

Thanks for visiting my site Mike C.

I understand what you mean when you say, “it’s about rights, not testimony. “ I have thought about that before. But then I thought a little deeper and thought to myself that being gay is wrong so why should they have rights. I don’t really quote much from the bible, but since I strongly believe marriage is a covenant between a woman, man and God, I must quote this:

Leviticus Ch. 18 v22-23
22 You shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is an abomination. 23 Nor shall you mate with any animal, to defile yourself with it. Nor shall any woman stand before an animal to mate with it. It is perversion.

Leviticus Ch 20 v13
If a man lies with a male as he lies with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination. They shall surely be put to death. Their blood shall be upon them.

These quotes from the bible strongly says that being gay is wrong. I know you might think what I am about to say sounds a little disturbing, but this can be true. The bible also coincides with theory that if we accept gays in our society, then where would our morals stop. Next, as the bible mentions (Leviticus Ch. 18 v23), people will try to legalize having sex with animals (not that it is illegal, I’m not for sure) or try to have it accepted.

As far as leaving it up to the church, the church believes in the bible and if the bible says it is wrong, than why would they honor a gay marriage?

Two other theories of mines that being gay is wrong is that fact that you can not bear children and that gay men are extremely high with AIDS. I strongly believe nature guides us on what’s wrong and right just by facts of devastation. For example, nature tells us sleeping around with many different people is wrong by those people acquiring many STDs.

Mike C., this message is not trying to bash gays, but just to bring out the facts about why being gay is technically wrong. Therefore, why should we accept this kind of wrong behavior in our society?

More blacks supported President Bush than before

Posted on November 5th, 2004 in General, Politics, Culture by tavaresforby || 219 Comments

Surprisingly, there has been an increase of black votes for President Bush in the 2004 elections. This increase went from 9 percent in 2000 to 16 percent in 2004. Ohio, President Bush took 16 percent of the Black vote. Some of the reasons why blacks supported President Bush were because his solid beliefs in Gay Marriages and the fact that 2.55 million more blacks in the age range of 18 to 29 voted (Vote or Die).

Democrat by Default

There is a pamphlet circulating in some parts of the country that I find absolutely outrageous. I take this pamphlet as a direct racial insult and assumption by Democratic Party leaders of Black stupidity. The pamphlet summons memories of the 1960’s when blacks were kept from voting in the Deep South. The flier has the text,

“This is what they used to do to keep us from voting.”

And has a photo of a firefighter hosing a black man. It is insane to suggest that America is moving back to a time when Blacks are kept from voting. I also remind you that there were quite a few democrats using those fire hoses too! The fact that the Democratic Party is using the 1960’s civil rights atrocities to get black votes means two things.

1. To democratic campaign strategist, Blacks are too stupid to relate to and understand the current issues that are shaping America. In fact blacks aren’t even interested in learning the issues that truly matter in the election. But even a dog can remember when you kick and beat it. So why not bring up the 1960’s. Who cares if it has nothing to do with 2004. What are they going to do? Vote for Bush?

2. Presidential Candidate John Kerry has no advantages to the majority of voters over President Bush. So use the scare tactics to frighten uninformed weak voters into the Democratic Party invoking images of the civil rights struggle, war time drafts, failed health care and social security.

My previous post on voting should be crystal clear now. These are the tactics used by corrupt and failed politicians and political parties to manipulate elections. And who are they targeting? They target young, women, seniors and minority voters. People who the democrats perceive as weak, scared and ignorant. And to be brutally honest, in most cases, they are correct. If you don’t believe me just listen to the news reports. Read the news papers. Listen to the rhetoric coming from Sen. Kerry. Try to figure out who the target audiences are. It should be obvious. The John Kerry Campaign is literally taking any bad news that makes the head lines in the morning, and blaming President Bush. He knows that he is in trouble. His only hope at this point is ignorant, desperate and scared voters. How do you feel about that?

In conclusion I would like to state for the record that I am not a republican. Nor am I a democrat. I don’t have a particular party loyalty. The reason is that I prefer to give my vote to the candidate or idea that makes the most sense to me. I clearly lean more to the conservative side of most issues, but no one gets my vote by default.

AIDS and Africans

Ms Maathai, Kenya’s new Nobel Peace Price winner believe that AIDS was a deliberately created to for mass extermination of Africans.

KENYA’S new Nobel Peace Prize winner believes the virus causing AIDS was a deliberately created biological agent unleashed on Africans.

“Some say that AIDS came from the monkeys, and I doubt that because we have been living with monkeys (since) time immemorial, others say it was a curse from God, but I say it cannot be that,” Wangari Maathai told a news conference a day after winning the prize.

“Us black people are dying more than any other people in this planet.”

“In fact it (the HIV virus) is created by a scientist for biological warfare,” she added.

Africa accounts for 25 million out of the estimated 38 million people across the world infected with HIV, and the vast majority of infected Africans are women, according to UNAIDS estimates.

In August Kenya’s daily Standard newspaper quoted Ms Maathai saying HIV/AIDS was created by scientists for the purpose of mass extermination.

I have to disagree with Ms Maathai. I do not believe that AIDS was intended to wipe out the African population. One of her arguments for AIDS being used as a weapon to wipe out Africans was that 25 million Africans are infected with AIDS. Well, South Africa currently has 5.6 million affected with HIV while the latest UN data shows India having 5.1million people infected with HIV and many are not even recorded.

Facts do show that many Africans are infected with HIV compared to other races, but you do have to take into consideration that about majority of these 25million Africans live in the worst conditions in the world. Besides from AIDS and HIV, many Africans are highly infected with Polio Virus and many other diseases. I honestly think that living conditions is a major contribution for the high number of HIV/AIDS infected Africans.

More “Native-Born Blacks” Needed In The Sciences

Posted on October 9th, 2004 in General, Culture by tavaresforby || 334 Comments

Like I mentioned before, I am currently taking a graduates course in electrical engineering at UCSD. A good friend of mines at HispanicPundit is also taking classes at UCSD in engineering. He has a really good post about “More Hispanics Needed In The Sciences” which just took the words right out of my mouth if you did a global search and replace of “Hispanic” with “Blacks”. I also notice this every time that I take an engineering or upper division math class. Out of all of the engineering and upper division math classes I have taken, the most blacks I would see in one class (not including myself) is maybe about one or two. And majority of the time, they are African or Jamaican immigrants. The current course that I am taking now, VLSI Digital Circuits and System, there are two African immigrant students attending the course. I am extremely proud of these African immigrants taking these engineering classes, but I honestly think that they are putting us native-born blacks to shame. Check out these statistics:

Already, black immigrants are challenging native-born black students for prestigious slots in Ivy League schools. In June, according to The New York Times, several prominent black academics pointed out that about two-thirds of Harvard University’s black undergraduates are black immigrants, children of immigrants or children of biracial marriages. Researchers studying black enrollment at several other exclusive schools, including Princeton and the University of Pennsylvania, report that about 41 percent of their black students fit the same demographic profile

A while back, I also witness something that blew my mind. Read my post on African American Culture. Here is an excerpt:

I notice that many African Americans have very little interest on anything outside of their culture. I have very few black friends that I can talk mathematics, physics, politics, or other abstract subjects with. These are very powerful subjects that change the world. One night I went to go see the second Matrix at a theatre near UCSD. I got there about 40 minutes early because it was the first night it came out. During that 40 minutes before the move, I looked around the theatre and all I saw was a lot of Asian and White college kids with there text books open, using their TI-89, or had their laptop open doing some type of school work. I was amazed (besides the fact I was the only black there). And I thought to myself, how come I never see this in the black community? How can we get African Americans to shift some of their interest into something outside of their own? Maybe making these other interests look cool or a focus on changing the views of our younger African American generation can make a difference. Whatever the answer is, we need to get back in the race!

I EXTREMLY AGREE with HispanicPundit on this topic. And I also agree with him that us native-born blacks need to push our kids into science, math and engineering at an early age and that we need a LOT MORE native-born blacks into these areas. So please native-born blacks, let us become more diverse in education and professions.

Rick James Autopsy Results

Rick James autopsy shows that there were nine different drugs in his system including cocaine, methamphetamine, valium and vicodin.

LOS ANGELES, California (Reuters) — Flamboyant funk musician Rick James had nine drugs in his system when he died suddenly in August, including cocaine, methamphetamine, valium and vicodin, according to a coroner’s report Thursday.

His family attributed his death to natural causes, but the Los Angeles County coroner took over the case because James had not seen a doctor in recent weeks. An autopsy failed to establish the cause and toxicology tests were ordered.

The coroner listed nine drugs, including prescription medications for anxiety, pain relief and heart failure, along with cocaine and methamphetamine that were found in James’s body.

May Rick James rest in peace with his all time hit and one of my favorites “Fire and Desire” with Tina Maria. Man I love that song…. LOVE THEM AND LEAVE THEM (da do), THAT’S WHAT I USE TO DO…. Let me stop singing before I end up with a record deal ;)

Gay Day at Disney Land

I remember a couple of months ago or so, I was watching “Your World with Neil Cavuto”, and a guest host Stuart Varney was interviewing Walt Disney CEO Robert Iger about their new Disney Dream Desk PC for children. This is why I like Fox News. The funny thing was that the guest host Varney at Fox News immediately brushed off the intention for the interview about the children PC and start harassing the CEO Robert Iger about Gay Day at Disney Land. Varney goes to ask do the Disney Dream computer have any gay days on it and he ask, if you don’t protect children from gay day at Disney Land, then why would you protect it on the new Dream Computer. Here is Iger response:

We don’t sponsor gay days. You know, we are a company that, you know, lets anyone who is willing to pay through our gates. Obviously, there are always some exceptions. And we don’t really comment on the sexual orientation of the people who visit our parks — our guests, as we call them. And although, you know, we at times offer certain conveniences to make it easier for large groups of any kind to gather at our parks. It’s not something that we sponsor.

Yada Yada Yada!!!!

How do you not sponsor them if you have Gay Day at Disney Land? Hosting an event with intention of being gay seems like a sponsor to me. And the part were he says they are willing to let anyone through the gates who are willing to pay, well maybe you shouldn’t. Are you going to let terrorist through the gates too? Are you going to have terrorist day?

Gay day at Disney Land! What is this world coming to? Disneyland is intended to be a place for children, not for queer adults. Do you see the extent companies do just to make profits? You do not see Nickelodeon having “come screw me day” or “playboy day”. That’s absurd! I’m sorry, but I completely disagree with gay day at Disney Land. Maybe Goofy and Mickey are queers. The sad thing is, if you navigate through the gay day website, they show all the pictures of all these gay people looking all nasty and freaky looking. Now, if I as an adult cannot stomach these pictures, what makes you think children can when they do a Google search for Disney Day.

The Cookout

Ok, I know that I am getting started again, but I cannot resist to comment on the movie Cookout. I tried my best to block this movie out of my head, but it keeps on popping up. The movie Cookout is about a basketball player who signed a $30 million contract and had a cookout that his family always use to have in the summer. Like I mentioned in my post African American Culture, “Too much influence can hinder the future of African American generations. This influence comes from music, music videos, and the trend of African American culture.” Let me also include that movies is another influence that can hinder the future of African Americans. Many African American kids look up to (unfortunately) entertainers like Queen Latifah, Eve, etc… and therefore is going to want to see this move. What message(s) are they going to get out of this movie? My guess would be, associating blacks with basketball like usual. If our supposedly black roll models keeps on portraying these kinds of stereotypes, then it is going to make it very hard for our younger black generation to venture out of these stereotypes. Besides being a basketball player or some other highly recognized African American sport player, other stereotypes many black movies portray are: growing up in the hood, being a rapper or drug dealer, etc… As blacks, we need to think outside of the box and explore outside of our culture.

I understand that many blacks can relate to these movies, but in essence, these kinds of movies can be negative towards the expansion of the African American culture. I know that some of you are arguing that this is not true, but the reality is, it is true! And please keep in mind that I am speaking from experience. I have been influenced from music and other black cultures when I was growing up, but fortunately I was able to make it out of these African American stereotypes. I have seen many that didn’t. Many people that I grew up with til this day is still trying to get a record deal and they cannot even sing. Some are trying to produce, but they don’t even have the talent or connections to do so. Why are they so adamant in doing these things when they do not even have the talent to do it? Maybe because somehow, they were influenced as they were growing up!

Samoa plans internet for all

Posted on August 24th, 2004 in General, Culture, Technology by tavaresforby || No Comment

The Pacific island nation is planning to supply the island of Samoa with full Internet access to help promote business and the economy. Currently, about 30% of the population has access to a basic phone and less the 2% uses the Internet.

Samoa is at the the heart of tropical Polynesia. It has a population of 180,000, but only 30% presently have access to a basic telephone.
Less than 2% ever use the Internet. But the government plans a major drive to promote online access for all.

With Samoa having access to the internet, they will be able to market their goods like woven bags online.

She foresees the day when a computer-literate population sells Samoan goods such as woven bags and Polynesian prints over the internet, promoting economic growth.

Some Samoans fear that the internet will impact their culture by bringing western values and other fears about child pornography.

In this rush to embrace new technology, there are some warning voices.

“One of the things that I worry about is how this exposure is going to impact on the culture,” says Ioanna Chan-Mow, Dean of the Faculty of Science and the National University of Samoa.

“We’re exposing ourselves to a whole lot of philosophies and ways of life, bringing in a lot of western values.”

Samoan culture is centred around the traditional family unit, each headed by a Matai or Chief. Attendance at Christian church services is high.

Of particular concern to many people is internet pornography.

At one of the few private schools which provided pupils with internet access, the PCs had to be moved after it was discovered children had been accessing inappropriate websites.

The prime minister believes the benefits of the internet will far outweigh any disadvantages.

“The internet is OK so long as we impose the necessary controls to cut out pornography which would be damaging for our people,” he says.

African American Culture

Posted on August 19th, 2004 in Culture by tavaresforby || 10 Comments

African Americans have a very strong and enjoyable culture. This culture is very strong in music (hip hop, R&B, rap), sports (football, basketball, track and field), and art (clothing, styles, setting trends). Also, it brings a lot of wealth to the few chosen blacks and many of the younger black generation look up to and are influenced by this culture. Many blacks look at these accomplishments as positive, but there is another perspective. Too much influence can hinder the future of African American generations. This influence comes from music, music videos, and the trend of African American culture. Many significant leaders in the black music industry I have seen interviewed believe that music and music videos do not have a negative effect on the younger black generation. They say that the younger black generation sees the black music industry as being entrepreneurs, and business owners. That is not true. The younger black generation sees the music industry for the music and music videos they put out. They see all the big expensive cars, the pretty girls with very little clothing, and all the flashy jewelry. Sports can also hinder the younger black generation. There are a lot of kids and teenagers with tremendous talents in basketball and football and many of them focus on pursuing a professional position in these sports. But the fact is there are only a small amount of these professional positions available. Therefore, only the elite are accepted. Many of the younger black generation that live in the ethnic communities are predominately interested only in playing sports or being in the entertainment industry and have no interest in other means of success.

I also think African American parents need to become more of a role model to their children in the ethnic communities. Many of the younger black kids look up to the entertainers and sport players they see on TV, and even the big time drug dealers they see in the streets. African American parents have the responsibility to communicate with their children that there is a lot more than what they just see around them. For example, parents should talk to their kids about the stock market, or about how foreign governments work, to even about tensions between other countries. This might seem a bit boring to a child, but it is the responsibility of parents to make these things are interesting and to ensure children understand how important this information is.
